About Trade Statistics

1. When is the monthly trade statistics data released?
Please refer to this website/Trade Statistics/Guide for release schedule. Adjustment applied to the prior monthly data will be issued in February of the next year; revisions to the annual data will be issued in September of the next year.
2. What is general trade system?
Depending on what parts of economic territory are included in the statistical territory, the trade data compilation system adopted by a country may be referred to as general or special. The statistical territory of the former coincides with the economic territory, while of the later comprises only a particular part of the economic territory. General trade system is adopted since 2016. Since then goods stored and re-exported subsequently in customs bonded warehouses, logistics centers, and non-manufacturing enterprises in free trade zones are included in the trade statistics. 3. What is “total imports” and “total exports”?
  1. Total imports consist of imports of foreign goods and reimports of domestic goods. The later refers to exported domestic goods returned in the same state or without acquiring foreign origin through processing. Practically it indicates the returned goods applied to customs reimports procedure.
  2. Total exports consist of exports of domestic goods and re-exports of foreign goods. The later refers to imported foreign goods exported in the same state or without acquiring domestic origin through processing.
4. What is basis of statistical value of goods?
The statistical value of import and export goods is recorded respectively on the basis of C.I.F. and F.O.B. which are excluded duty and tax.
5. What is the exchange rate from NT dollar to US dollar applied?
The same currency exchange rate from NT dollar to US dollar is applied to either imports or exports, which is the average of selling and buying rates announced by Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance every 10 days in a month for filing customs declaration purpose. 6. How to purchase trade statistics raw data?
The trade statistics raw data is an aggregated dataset of products and partner countries. If you have any questions about it, please email us at sta@customs.gov.tw.
7. Why is there difference among trade statistics released by Customs Administration and other agencies?
Though the trade statistics released by other agencies are aggregated based on the data provided by Customs Administration, the differences caused by currency exchanging and round-up may exist. Besides, trade statistics between 2001~2013 released by Department of Statistics, Ministry of Finance is estimated under general trade system; trade statistics of the same time released by Customs Administration is compiled under special trade system.

8. What does Taiwan, ROC (TW) as trading partner in the import statistics mean? Trade with itself?
Trading partner of imports indicates country (area) of origin. Taiwan, ROC (TW) as partner country in the import statistics is possible in the case that exported domestic goods returned in the same state or without acquiring foreign origin through processing, or imported for some other reasons. These commodities are included in the reimport statistics only if the corresponding customs procedure is applied to. It's worth noting that the reimports country is based on country (area) of sale before 2014. From 2015, it's based on country (area) of origin instead.
